They will often decimate populations and your characters, crippling whole realms when they sweep through. Quite simply, it implements the main diseases of the time in to the game. Slightly overpriced for my liking but worth getting in a sale. The main features though focus on your vassals and the council, whereby they can vote on changes to realm laws, or even force you in to decisions you don’t want…or risk civil war. Conclave – 2nd February 2016īack to a gameplay DLC with Conclave, with new diplomacy, education and combat features. Other features include being able to send off your family members as mercenaries, forcing neighbours into being tributaries, and landless adventures raiding your lands. Central Asia is added to the map, nomads are playable (with unique features) and the Silk Road is implemented. Small, low cost and required! Horse Lords – 14th July 2015Īfter the last short DLC, Horse Lords is a huge one. Way of Life brings a range of new features for your characters, including setting a life focus, new diplomatic interactions and many new events. Way of Life – 16th December 2014Īfter expansions focussing on expanding the map, who you can play as and the timeline, Paradox next focussed on improving gameplay elements. There are lots of other small features as well, including being able to create new kingdoms and empires based on your current duchy or kingdom, e.g. Charlemagne – 14th October 2014Īnother meaty DLC brings the legendary Emperor Charlemagne to life, as well as having a new early start date of 769 – pretty much where I start all of my CKII games now. I don’t often play CKII in India but I love it being there, and even on occasion have conquered part of it as a European ruler. There are also three new religions – Buddhist, Jain and Hindu – all with their unique features and benefits. This opens up the world properly (more than doubling the size) in to eastern Persia and India allowing you to play as any ruler in that area. Rajas of India – 25th March 2014Īfter a pretty long wait (the EUIV convertor in August 2013 doesn’t count) we come to a pretty huge DLC, Rajas of India. There is also the implementation of the Zoroastrian faith in the east, and prepared invasions by adventurers who might take over your realm. With a new early start date of 867 AD, being a viking and rampaging around Europe is a hell (valhalla?) lot of fun. Probably my favourite early DLC, the Old Gods brings the pagan world properly in CKII. It gives a completely different playstyle and trade options, as well as allowing you to lead your non-noble patrician dynasty to glory, or even in to the nobility. Paradox got back in to the swing of things with the Republic, allowing you to play as a noble family in a republic, such as Venice, Genoa or Gotland. Avoid unless you want to be a completionist. I’ve played CKII with this DLC turned on very rarely and it is good for the odd alt-history game, but it seriously screws up a ‘normal’ game. Sunset Invasion – 16th November 2012Ī bizarre misstep by Paradox so early in CKIIs life – this DLC has seriously overpowered Aztecs invading Europe. The first main DLC opened up Muslim Rulers as now playable, with new and interesting mechanics for them the Greed vs Nobility mechanic making it particularly challenging and rewarding to play a Muslim ruler. The chance to create your own dynasty from scratch and see it rule most of the world…or fall into endless obscurity, is a chance worth paying for. Such a small DLC but an absolutely crucial one – I rarely ever play CKII now without using my own created character.
